Rehapp

Mobile Learning Games
for Children with Autism

Summary

Rehapp is a mobile learning platform of games for children on the Autism Spectrum. The games are based on daily life activities and promote independence. It is based on the insight that when parents have a child with disabilities, they ask themselves "what's going to happen to my child when I'm gone?". This project started as my undergraduate Thesis and through Government Grants became a fully fleshed startup company with sales. I led an interdisciplinary team of 5 people until the project closed in 2017.

Branding

The goal for the branding was to represent a serious solution that integrated 3 elements: compassion, evidence-based knowledge and accessible technology. Through the circles we transmitted flexibility, the color palette shows a medical but approachable product. The font was Museo Sans Rounded, with soft curves and round edges to promote our kindness based values.

Product Development

We decided to develop mobile games for tablets because we saw that most parents of Autistic children already had them. This was due to the fact that children with Autism become highly engaged and respond enthusiastic to visually based touch interfaces.

User Testing and Implementation

A cornerstone of this project was to always be User Testing. We co-created with Special Education Teachers, Occupational Therapists and parents using the iterative process of Lean Startup and Design Thinking to make sure our product was a strong fit to their needs. We also formed alliances with rehabilitation centers and special needs schools to demo our product with their patient and student population.

Awards

This project received numerous national and international recognitions due to the strong impact we had on improving the quality of life of children with Autism and their families. We proved that a business can be viable and do good at the same time.
